A quite unique feature of a helicopter compared to any other aircraft, is the ability to transport many different types of loads suspended from a cargo hook.
The helicopter sling load method of carrying cargo and equipment overcomes many of the obstacles that hinder other modes of transport.
This unique transportation method allows the helicopter to deliver cargo or/and loads even on locations where landing is not possible, and to perform highly specialized tasks such as cable stringing and aerial construction. It is essential, for carrying out safe slinging operations, the pilot and ground personnel (task specialists) involved be thoroughly conversant with the techniques required.
